Passover Dessert Recipes

With the demand for gluten free food on the increase Passover dessert recipes are becoming more popular all year round.

Many Passover desserts use matza meal and are not suitable for a gluten free diet. However, a good number of desserts (and in my opinion many of the best ones) do not use matza or matza meal in any shape or form. These Passover desserts rely on quality ingredients such as ground nuts, chocolate, sugar and eggs. There is a huge selection of desserts that you can use either for Passover or for any time that you need a gluten free dessert. For more recipes and ideas see Passover cakes.

Chocolate
Chocolate forms the basis of many wonderful Passover desserts. Chocolate mousse is popular with adults and children, and is perfect served with fresh fruit salad. If you prefer something more gourmet you could try a chocolate mousse cake . To make a change from standard chocolate mousse you could try an easy mint chocolate mousse or chocolate puddings.

If you prefer something chocolatey but not mousse then chocolate roulade is a great option. You can fill it with chocolate cream or cream and fruit, whichever you prefer. Or try a meringue roulade , which is a rolled up pavlova – sounds tricky, but it's actually quite straight forward; or you could always go with meringues which you can sandwich together with cream, or make into nests and fill with ice cream, cream or fruit.


Almond macaroons
make a nice alternative to meringues - serve them with fresh fruit and ice cream or cream for a lovely simple dessert.

If you are looking for something fruity then you can fill the meringue roulade with cream and fruit, or lemon curd. Alternatively you might like an easy cherry pie or fruity clafoutis or apple and almond cake. Whatever you plan to make, remember to check that you have all the necessary utensils before you start. There is nothing more frustrating than finding you have no dish to mix in, or tray to bake on.
