About jewishholidayrecipe.com
I love food…everything about it – reading about it, deciding what to cook, cooking, eating. I remember helping my mother in the kitchen as a young child; I had my own mini baking set and loved using it. As I teenager I started baking and experimenting in the kitchen. I have always loved recipe books, and cookery magazines, but kosher recipes are not always so inspiring. Whenever I have run out of books to read, or need a change I opt for one of my many cookbooks. And I am constantly searching for new recipes on the internet. Around the time of the Jewish holidays I try and find new recipes which are suitable for me, or can easily be adapted to fit in with kashrut requirements. After several months of toying with the idea of putting my ideas and recipes down on "paper" I finally decided to go for it and
jewishholidayrecipe.com
was created.
The recipes here are divided according to the Jewish holidays. I have my standard recipes for Shabbat meals, but around the times of the holidays I am always looking for something new. Maybe a variation on a traditionalJewish theme, maybe something totally different, maybe something super-easy because I am busy with other things. What I always want is to know that the recipe will work. I hate it when I go to the effort of trying a new recipe and it doesn’t turn out well. I have only posted recipes here that I have tried and tested, always once, usually many times. I tried out many of the recipes whilst writing this website to check the measurements or baking times, and to try variations.
These recipes are not all mine. Many come from my family members – my mother, my mother-in-law, my sister, my aunts and cousins…there's certainly something genetic about our love for food. Other recipes come from friends, or are based on recipes I saw once on the internet or in a long-since abandoned magazine. If I have adapted a recipe I have given credit (where possible) to the author of the original recipe. Whilst some of these recipes may resemble recipes you have seen elsewhere if I have not given credit then this is coincidental. Many thanks to Joe Hyams for the photography. Pictures of cooked foods were taken specifically for this website. This website is by no means complete. I am enjoying kosher cooking and baking in an effort to fill in the many gaps. Please bear with me as I add more pages. If you are looking for a specific recipe find it here.
I hope you will enjoy these recipes as much as I do!Thanks for stopping by, and please come again soon! Elana Gotkine
